They might not be the starting point when you first try to find real estate and apartments in Vienna. But how useful are trade exhibitions when you are trying to find real estate in Vienna?
First thing we need to acknowledge: there are not that many trade exhibitions for real estate in Vienna. Essentially there are two major ones – the Erste Wohnmesse currently taking place at the Museum of Applied Arts and the Wiener Immobilien Messe (Vienna Real Estate Exhibition) in March of every year. While the Erste Wohnmesse is organized by the Erste Bank the Vienna Real Estate Exhibition is organized maybe by the more neutral Reed Exhibitions.
Depending on what you are looking for these trade exhibitions make more sense or not. For those that already live in Vienna and would like to move to either a rental apartment or would like to buy real estate in Vienna these trade exhibitions are certainly a viable idea.
Eventually most exhibitors are either real estate developers or bigger real estate agencies. Both might offer selling or letting apartments. Although one must say the majority of the exhibitors are selling apartments. Some also present future projects which might be interesting as you can subscribe to an email list where you get notified when these new projects go up for sale. Some even give you the opportunity that you can choose some of the features of the apartment while it is being built – like the floor material, etc. Since the Erste Wohnmesse does not charge entry fee the only thing you invest in this case is the time you spend there.
